AS BRIGHT AS HEAVEN

Susan Meissner
(1918 Spanish Influenza, Philadelphia, 464 pages)

Susan Meissner caught my eye in a Facebook group mentioning it covered the 1918 Spanish flu epidemic in Philadelphia. Ms. Meissner did an incredible job with the details of the flu and seamlessly wove it into her story. She also employed varying POVs with four characters. This is a difficult approach for writers, but she maintained consistency swapping between each one, even having the language grow and evolve as the characters did throughout the novel. Meissner rarely disappoints. She’s one of my favorite HF author.
