Balancing Tension with Hope
I listened to AspenRidge by Michelle Wiberg on Audible. The engaging story kept me going on the treadmill a few more minutes each session, as I had to complete a chapter to find out what would happen next. Although I’ve recently read a few post-apocalyptic novels, this one stands out with a highly developed sense of survival, family bonds (both actual and found), mythology, and a slow-building romance.
When cyberattacks, riots, and environmental disasters send society into freefall, Jessie Oakes faces heartbreaking loss and an uncertain future in her father’s Colorado Rockies retreat, where she discovers that resilience often comes from unexpected sources. I also enjoyed the creative way Wiberg wove in Greek mythology throughout the story. Those stories enrich the narrative with themes of nature, rebirth, community, and the cycles of life, adding another layer of meaning to Jessie’s journey.
AspenRidge is an engaging, thought-provoking read that balances tension with warmth and hope. ***** |
